Artist Statement
I experienced a very long winter in my life. Rather like C.S. Lewis' Narnia, in which it felt like "always winter and never Christmas". As life changing events occurred in my life, God used this transition to give me Hope for a new life and for Spring to come into my existance.
Interestingly enough, I used liturgical colors for the meanings of my paintings without realizing that I was doing so. God was also in the process of drawing me by the Holy Spirit into the Episcopal faith and church. My first Sunday at St. Alban's was Palm Sunday and then I attended all of Holy Week and Easter. These paintings represent God working in my life and Spring coming to reside with me in a new and wonderful way.
God can and does make all things new in our lives. These paintings represent my own journey, and my daughter's journey
In the Hope of Spring - the tulip bulb is surrounded by God's presence and alive and waiting for Spring under the winter snow. God has placed everything needed within the bulb for it to bloom and become the thing of astonishing beauty that it was intended and created to become. In the Debut of Spring and the Treasure of Spring, the crocus plant is the first sign of spring. It blooms through very harsh and severe circumstances, but is treasured the world over for it's beauty and ability to bloom through snow and rocky places. The Treasure of Spring is painted on lace, because sometimes life is fragile, delicate, and yet exquisitely beautiful.
